What's different about selling an electric van

Electric vans need a different pricing framework to diesel. The standard age-and-mileage model used for conventional vans doesn't apply cleanly, a high-mileage EV with a healthy battery can be worth significantly more than a lower-mileage one with a degraded pack. The battery is the most expensive component, and its condition determines which market the van falls into.

Battery health: the key variable

Battery State of Health (SoH) is the percentage of original capacity remaining. A new battery is 100% SoH; after several years of use, it will degrade, how quickly depends on charging habits, temperature exposure, and the chemistry of the specific pack.

85%+ SoH

Healthy. Range is near original spec. Used-market buyers are confident at this level. Best offer range.

70–85% SoH

Usable but noticeable degradation. Some buyers will discount; others (city operators with short routes) won't care. Mid-range offer.

Below 70% SoH

Significant range loss. Used-market buyers are limited. Offer is based on salvage and parts value, motor, inverter, ancillaries, rather than whole-vehicle sale.

To find your SoH: most modern EV vans display it in the vehicle's information menu, or it can be read via OBD2 diagnostic tools. A recent dealer health check report is the most reliable source.

ULEZ and LEZ compliance, the EV advantage

All battery electric vehicles are exempt from London's ULEZ, Birmingham's CAZ, and all current UK Clean Air Zones. This is a meaningful used-market advantage, buyers operating in major cities pay a genuine premium for EV compliance versus a diesel equivalent. If your EV is in good health, the LEZ exemption supports the offer value.

Selling an electric van, common questions

Do you buy electric vans?

+

Yes, Ford E-Transit, Vauxhall Vivaro-e, Citroën Berlingo Electric, Nissan e-NV200, Renault Kangoo Z.E., Renault Master Z.E., Maxus Deliver 3 and others. Enter your reg for an offer.

Does battery health affect the offer?

+

Yes, meaningfully. We'll ask for the State of Health (SoH) reading if available, it's accessible via the van's info screen on most models. A battery at 85%+ SoH is in the used-market range. Below 70%, the offer shifts toward salvage.

What if I don't know the battery health?

+

We can work from symptoms, range degradation vs. spec, charging behaviour, any battery warning lights. Give us as much detail as you can and we'll price accordingly. If you have a recent dealer health report, that's useful.

Is there a charging cable included in the sale?

+

Include whatever came with the van, Type 2 charging cable, granny charger. These have resale value and their presence (or absence) is factored into the offer.

The battery is leased separately, can I still sell the van?

+

Some older EVs (particularly early Renault Kangoo Z.E. and Nissan e-NV200 models) were sold with a battery lease arrangement. In this case you own the van body but not the battery, and the lease transfers to the buyer. We can work through this, mention it when you accept the offer.

Are electric vans worth more or less than diesel equivalents?

+

Currently it depends on age. Newer EVs (post-2021) from mainstream manufacturers can command a premium in the used market due to running cost savings and ULEZ/LEZ compliance. Older first-generation EVs with degraded batteries can be worth less than a comparable diesel.
